Men Division 1
Castlemaine 0 lost to Epsom 1
Goal scorers - Epsom: Trent Gladstone-1
Votes - Castlemaine: Daniel Arcidiacomo, Brendan Connelly, Sayle Johnston
Epsom: Trevor Harvey, Aaron Baker, Steve McKenzie
After Castlemaine's defeat last week by the Golden City team in their first win of the season,
Castlemaine was determined to put up a real effort against third on the ladder Epsom. Their task
was not helped by the fact many of their young players were away at the annual snow camp.
However, Castlemaine really played a great team game and kept the much fancied Epsom team to
a low scoring win. When you consider that the Castlemaine side played most of the game with 10
men, the outcome is even more impressive. In the absence of regular keeper Tristan Evans, Ray
West was the substitute keeper but he was was red carded at the 27 minute of the first quarter for
picking up the ball a metre outside the line when the referee deemed he had disallowed the
approaching Epsom player an opportunity to play the ball. When both sides went in at half time, the
score was nil all. Epsom had to work hard to earn a single goal against the 10 man Castlemaine
side. Young Brendan Connelly stepped from his midfield role into the keeper role and he was
effective in guarding the goals and only one score from Epsom's Trent Gladstone was able to find
the net. For Castlemaine Daniel Arcidiacomo was indominatable in defence. Timon Dooley had to
come off ten minutes before the end with knee problems but played a great game. Sayon Souare
and Hannis Maky up forward never stopped trying. Harley Dingle in his first division 1 game was
impressive and young Sayle Johnston and Conner Bethune were also strong on the ball. Richard
Black was out with an injury this week and the team missed his maturity on the field. Playing coach
Paul Simms had to lead by example in defence and was pleased with the teamwork displayed
against the much fancied Epsom team.
Men Division 2
Castlemaine 0 lost to Epsom 2
Goal scorers - Epsom: Sam Kerns-1, Brenton Ellis-1
Votes - Castlemaine: Tom Scott, Wayde Suchodolskiy, Jack Jensen
Epsom: Jayden Keegan, Sam Kernns, Shaun Naughton
Thge shortage of players this weekend due to the snow camp meant a number of division 2
players had to move up to division 1 so the reserves team were short of some of their usual
firepower. Both teams played hard and went in at the half at nil all. Tom Scott was impressive at
centre back. Wayde Suchodolskiy at right full back played a determined game and Jack Jensen at
left midfield lifted the play at every opportunity. Epsom were able to break through in the second
half to score twice but they certainly knew they had earnt the goals after an even and well fought
match.
Women
Castlemaine 0 lost to Epsom 7
Votes - Castlemaine: Iona Moller, Beth Allen, Tahnee Ollerton
Epsom: Holly Credlin, Bridget Chamberlain, Jo Hill
Epsom's womens team are sitting at second on the ladder and their experience was always going
to be a challenge for the youthful Castlemaine side. Castlemaine fielded a depleted side with
many away at the annual school snow camp but they were clearly not able to match the workrate
and skill of the Epsom women. Keeper Iona Moller was busy at the goalface and the Epsom team
were regularly able to penetrate the defence and score freely. The Castlemaine team came from
the ground feeling that they had played well and enjoyed the game against a highly fancied
opposition. The team spirit was strong even in the loss.

Castlemaine 2 V Spring Gully Red 2
Castlemaine Under 16’s is a team that commands respect from its opposition. Every other team in
the competition knows that, either at home or away, when they play Castlemaine, they have to work
hard for every procession. Every contested ball will be approached with vigour and determination.
Every game will be fought out to the very end. Yet, our enthusiasm for the game is always done with
a huge amount of goodwill towards every opposition player. It is a testament to our players that they
play hard, they always play fair, and they play the game in the spirit it should be played.
Castlemaine and Spring Gully have played some great games over the last three or four years, and
Saturdays game was no exception, eventually finishing in a two all draw.
Best Players; Mikey Herzer, Paddy Moore, Gabe Gianni-Maeve.

Castlemaine 2 Colts United 2
The visit of second placed Colts to the Soldiers Memorial Ground on Saturday had the look of a
very difficult fixture for the Under 15's. In the corresponding game back in May Colts had run out 7-0
winners and looked to be a strong, well organised team.
But football keeps us on our toes and can often produce the unexpected. Normally the Under 15's
start very sluggishly and improve as the match progresses. Today they had other plans and roared
out of the blocks with fast flowing football and pressure galore on the Colts goal. And yet when
sustained pressure isn't converted into goals it can have a reverse effect. It was no real surprise,
then, when Colts went ahead against the run of play. Their tall forwards and strong heading ability
combined to create the set-back Castlemaine's play didn't deserve. By half-time Colts were two up
and seemingly in control of a game they were only spectating for much of the time.
At half-time coach, Robin Haylett, moved Najib Hashimi into attack and shuffled other players due
to the fact that two were unwell. When the match resumed the changes didn't make any initial
impact. Castlemaine had to stay alert in defence and saw keeper, Ryan Hansen pull off a string of
vital saves. Then there was a sudden gear change as Hashimi took it upon himself to repeatedly
run at the Colts defence. Well supported by Amos Whitewolf, Tarnay Sass and Ruby James,
Hashimi ignited the game with a spectacular goal. From then on it was just a matter of WHEN the
equaliser was coming because Castlemaine had all the momentum. It was the suddenly
unstoppable Hashimi who made it all-square with another powerful run and strike.
A stunned Colts tried to upset the Castlemaine charge with several fast counter attacks as
Castlemaine pushed forward looking for the winner. Hashimi had a couple of great chances to
make it a personal hatrick and Ruby James shot at the keeper when the goalmouth was begging.
A drawn match was a bit harsh on Castlemaine who produced their best all-round team
performance of the season and would have sent Colts back to Bendigo wondering what on earth
had happened in a game they would have expected to win easily.
Best were: Najib Hashimi, Ryan Hansen & Tarnay Sass. Most Disciplined Award to Kyte
Thomason for his tireless workrate.

In most circumstances, a 5- 1 loss would be deflating. This week’s defeat by Golden City, however,
was encouraging when considered in the light of absent players and the 10-1 scoreline when last
the teams met in Round 5.
In fact, on the back of last week’s 4-2 loss against a Colts team that had previously beaten the
Maine 8-1, this performance could well be a portent of that elusive first win for the season. Stay
tuned!
Castlemaine started slowly, sorely missing the pace and tenacity of Harrison Cocks, who broke
his arm the previous week, and Taro Muller (enjoying the ski slopes).
After a first half dominated by City’s speed and slick passing, Castlemaine took advantage of the
downhill slope at Shadforth Park to play a plucky second half on Saturday.
As defender Oscar Black pushed upfield bringing others into play with his ball control and passing,
the Maine ventured into attack more often and was finally rewarded with a goal to hard-working
midfielder Tristan Van Pagee-Anderson.
Along with whole-hearted Charlie Lukaitis and another willing worker, Milos Babovic, Tristan was
among the team’s best players. They were well supported by defenders Oliver Gross, Oscar Wood
and James Broughton.

Castlemaine U12 v Spring Gully Red
On a grey overcast day in Bendigo we faced Spring Gully Red at Strathdale, a team we'd beaten
last time round. But this game proved a little tougher. We took control of the ball early and looked
dangerous, but they made the first score after a fast rebound from a corner.
Ben made a good try, but wasn't to score yet.
He did score shortly after, however, in a swift bit of play from a corner by Lewis Fortuna.
Spring Gully answered quickly with their second, and we nearly equalised before half time with a
penalty from Lewis.
In the second half we started well, and with a neat pass from Sunday to Ben, Ben lobbed it into the
nets and we were equal.
Not long after, a neat pass from Braden to Ben let Ben score his third. Gabriel Lillington with a leg
injury nevertheless played like a rock, and the ball didn't get past him. Spring Gully never gave up
and still looked dangerous toward the end, but bad luck for them, it wasn't their day.
/Final score: Castlemaine 3 - Spring Gully Red 2
Coach's award to Sunday Lam, and Sunday 3, Gabe Lillingotn 2 and Ben Adams 1.

The trip to the Strathdale Tiger Sharks home turf was a fruitful one , as the Castlemaine Greens
skills were sharp , to get the lead early in the first half. One goal was a beauty from a corner that
was headed in by Oliver Huzzey.
The skills are improving each week and the team structure is sound with all players knowing there
roll no matter what position they play. Also some very good displays of sportsmanship were
witnessed, helping a Tiger Shark to his feet after a collision to name one.
Final score: Castlemaine Greens defeated Strathdale Tiger Sharks,, 4 goals to 1

Castlemaine 0 drew with Colts United Panthers 0
Best: Hugh Feary, Goergia Jenkins-Smales, Gock Nyok
Castlemaine Under 14s played away at Colts United on a morning that had looked threatening at
first with heavy grey skies which promptly cleared to sunny patches as the game got under way.
Castlemaine started off very strong and seemed to take Colts by surprise, several strong attacks
were pressed within the first 10 minutes, but with no reward. Colts too had a couple scoring
opportunities but couldn't goal. Throughout the first half Castlemaine seemed dominant, but
couldn't finish off some good build-ups despite most of the action occurring up forward. At half time
Colts retired to their rooms while Castlemaine enjoyed the sunshine on the side lines. Colts had
clearly been having some kind of pep talk because they burst out of their rooms, charged the field
and whooped and hollered as they warmed up for the second half. This renewed spirit showed for
the remainder of the game - Castlemaine players had clearly put a lot of energy into the first half
and now had not much left in the tank, so keeper Hugh Feary was well and truly put to the test
defending attack after attack. Hugh kept his nerve and Colts couldn't get past him, and remained
scoreless. Castlemaine had good contributions from players who are new to the team this year;
Goch Nyok played well on left full-back, and Georgia Jenkin-Smales had some excellent moments
mid-field. At the final whistle the score was nil all, both teams had been evenly matched and put on
a fine display. While our team came away win-less, the score accurately reflected a close and hard-
fought game. Best & Fairest votes:Hugh Feary 3Georgia Jenkin-Smales 2Goch Nyok 1 Weekly
